Promotions to Associate Clinical Professor
Dr. Selina Dobing is a general internal medicine subspecialist at the U of A Hospital, where she provides inpatient and emergency consultative care. She maintains a high-volume outpatient practice through C-Impact which she co-founded in 2021, significantly improving patient access to GIM care. She has also contributed to the development and delivery of quality improvement and clinical tools to support inpatient care.
Dr. Dobing serves as assistant program director for the GIM Subspecialty Residency Program, where she has led multiple initiatives to enhance resident education and program operations. Dr. Dobing also chairs the continuous quality improvement subcommittee.

Dr. Mark Hnatiuk is a hematologist at the U of A Hospital. He is recognized as a regional expert in thrombosis, myeloproliferative neoplasms, and iron deficiency anemia.
He became site lead for the Bone Marrow Biopsy Clinic in 2021 and has successfully expanded the service, enhanced access to timely care, and reduced patient length of stay.
Dr. Hnatiuk served as interim associate program director of Assessment for the Core Internal Medicine program in 2021-2022, where he contributed to modernizing assessment materials. He is also an academic advisor and active member of the residency training committee.

Dr. Mohammed Aatif Hussain is a geriatrician at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, where he provides inpatient and emergency consultation services and contributes to the geriatric medicine program. He also provides outpatient care at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital. He has played a pivotal role in expanding access to geriatric care for rural populations through regular outreach clinics, while also advancing education and support for primary care providers and nursing staff in these communities.
Dr. Hussain is program director for the Geriatric Medicine Residency Program. Under his leadership, the program successfully transitioned to Competence by Design and secured a favourable outcome in the 2025 Royal College accreditation cycle. His scholarly and quality improvement work focuses on health system redesign, clinical flow, and patient safety initiatives.

Dr. Humaira Iqbal is a respirologist in the Division of Pulmonary Medicine at the Royal Alexandra Hospital and practices internal medicine at the Misericordia Community Hospital. She has led the development of several outpatient clinics across the city to enhance continuity of care post-discharge, as well as establishing protocols for bronchoscopy bookings at the Royal Alex.
She teaches learners at multi-levels and has been an invited speaker at local, national, and international forums on pulmonary care. She is a site sub-investigator on industry-sponsored trials.

Dr. Tolu Olateju is a general endocrinologist with expertise in diabetes management (DM) and automated insulin delivery. She provides care in the community and serves as the physician-lead for the Sturgeon Community Hospital Edmonton Zone Diabetes Committee and site preceptor/coordinator for learners rotating in DM and Community Endocrine Clinics.
Dr. Olateju's scholarly activities include participation in diabetes-related clinical trials as a principal and sub-investigator. She has contributed to departmental and university committees and served as a consultant to several industry advisory boards.

Dr. Mariam Shahidi is a recognized leader in endocrine oncology and complex endocrine conditions at the U of A Hospital. She founded and leads two specialized clinics dedicated to managing endocrine complications following cancer therapy and immune-related adverse events.
She currently serves as program director of the Adult Endocrinology Residency Program, having previously held the role of assistant program director, and has led key educational initiatives, including the successful implementation of Competence by Design. Dr. Shahidi is involved in clinical research as a sub-investigator in diabetes-related trials and has supervised resident research projects, with several peer-reviewed publications.

Dr. Pierre-Marc Villeneuve has a broad clinical practice spanning nephrology, internal medicine, and critical care across multiple sites. He co-founded the NeuroMedicine service at the University of Alberta Hospital, contributed to the redesign of nephrology services at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital and developed workflows and operations for the Edmonton General Hemodialysis Unit.
Promotions to Clinical Professor
Dr. Cecile Phan is a neurologist at the U of A Hospital and is recognized nationally as a clinical leader in complex acquired and hereditary neuromuscular disease. She established the muscle and nerve biopsy clinic at the U of A Hospital in 2014 and continues to lead this service. She is also co-director of the adult neuromuscular multidisciplinary clinic and co-leads the neuromuscular genetics clinic.
Dr. Phan is a distinguished educator and leader, recognized with multiple teaching awards, as well as wellness initiatives. She founded the Neuromuscular Fellowship Program in 2018, and became the Department of Medicine’s inaugural fellowship director in 2023. That same year, she was a recipient of the AMA’s Shine a Light Program.
Her scholarly work includes leadership of multiple clinical trials in neuromuscular disease and over 20 peer-reviewed publications.
She also contributes to divisional, departmental, and national society leadership in neurology education and professional organizations.

Dr. Anca Tapardel is a general internist at the U of A Hospital, with a clinical focus on complex outpatient internal medicine. She also contributes to inpatient GIM services and the Edmonton Zone Virtual Hospital. She co-designed an integrated care pathway for patients with rare genetic conditions, supporting a seamless pediatric-to-adult transition. She is an elected fellow of the American College of Physicians and received the Prairie Chapter Award and the AHS Cares Award in recognition of her clinical contributions.
An accomplished educator and leader, Dr. Tapardel has served as associate program director for the Core Internal Medicine Residency Program since 2017 and has been instrumental to the program’s success. Her scholarly work is centered on quality improvement initiatives aimed at improving patient care and system efficiencies. She also supports peer review activities for academic conferences and abstracts.
Dr. Tapardel serves as chair of the CPSA Complaint Review Committee and supports physician integration and language training programs for international medical graduates.

Dr. Benjamin Tyrrell practices out of the CK Hui Heart Centre at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in general and interventional cardiology. He is nationally recognized as a leader in structural heart disease, having established Alberta’s first Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) program in 2009 and has vastly expanded its procedural volume over time. He co-founded the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Clinic, now the largest program of its kind in Western Canada, and has led initiatives to expand cardiovascular care access through rural outreach and cardiovascular awareness campaigns.
Dr. Tyrrell founded the Interventional Cardiology Fellowship Program, which has trained over 30 fellows under his stewardship. His scholarly work includes over 29 peer-reviewed publications, leadership of multicentre clinical trials and quality improvement initiatives, and industry-supported studies. He also supervises trainee research and contributes to national cardiovascular research collaborations.
Dr. Tyrrell holds senior leadership roles as director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, director of Interventional Training at the CK Hui Heart Centre, and RAH Cardiology site lead.
