PROFESSOR JOHN D. MUCCIGROSSO (Drew University)

RECENT WORK ALONG THE FLAMINIAN WAY (ITALY)

Several excavations active in recent years have increased our understanding of the history and development of that second great Roman road, the Flaminian Way.

In this lecture, Professor Muccigrosso will discuss his work at the site of the Vicus Martis Tudertium, as well as that at other nearby sites. The associated history of the region of Umbria will also be discussed.

Professor John D. Muccigrosso's visit to Edmonton is the first this year sponsored by the Archaeological Institute of America. He comes to us from Drew University (Madison, NJ) where he has taught in the Department of Classics since 1998.
His research interests include both language and archaeology. He has pioneered research on the use of technology in language teaching and, for many years, has directed excavations at the site of a suburban Roman settlement (the Vicus Martis Tudertium)
on the Via Flaminia outside Rome. He recently received a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities for advanced studies in the Digital Humanities.

All are welcome.
