Minister Ambrose announces new appointment to the Governing Council of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research

Dr. Lori West will contribute her vast research and clinical experience in guiding Canada's health research investment agency and its efforts to improve the health of Canadians

The Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Health, today announced the appointment of Dr. Lori West to the Governing Council of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) for a three-year term.

Throughout her career, Dr. West has demonstrated the highest standards of scientific excellence and a firm commitment to improving the care of patients through translational research. As a member of CIHR's Governing Council, she will contribute to the strategic direction of the organization and the evaluation of its performance.

Dr. West is internationally recognized for her contributions in the field of pediatric cardiac transplantation and transplant immunology. She is currently a professor at the University of Alberta in Edmonton and director of research at the Alberta Transplant Institute. She holds a Canada Research Chair in Cardiac Transplantation where she is working to make heart transplants safer and more successful for children. Dr. West is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.
