1.1 Graduate Program at a Glance

Students enrolled in an MSc program are expected to complete all requirements to graduate in 2-3 years. Students enrolled in a PhD program are expected to complete all requirements to graduate in 4-5 years. To achieve these goals, the Graduate Studies Committee recommends that the following activities to be completed within each program year.

RECOMMENDED ACTIVITIES

  • YEAR ONE
  • Register in at least 2 courses (consult with supervisor and supervisory committee to select appropriate courses)
  • Register in PHARM 697 (part 1 is in Fall Term part 2 is in Winter Term)
  • Graduate students attend Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Seminars
  • Establish supervisory committee
  • Hold first supervisory committee meeting
  • Complete safety training as required
  • Begin accruing hours towards ethics training requirement
  • Begin accruing hours towards professional development requirement

  • YEAR TWO
  • MSc students complete all course requirements
  • Graduate students attend Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Seminars
  • Hold second supervisory committee meeting
  • MSc students must make the decision to transfer to a PhD program before the end of the second year and prior to start of the third year
  • Complete at least 8 hours of ethics training
  • Complete at least 8 hours of professional skill development
  • MSc student final oral examination should be scheduled
  • PhD student candidacy examination should be scheduled

  • YEAR THREE
  • Graduate students attend Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Seminars
  • MSc students complete all program requirements
  • PhD students complete all course requirements prior to candidacy exam
  • PhD students complete candidacy exam by the 36th month of their program

  • YEAR FOUR
  • Graduate students attend Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Seminars
  • MSc students are required to complete their degree
  • PhD students should be completing their research
  • PhD student final oral examination should be scheduled

  • YEAR FIVE
  • PhD students complete all program requirements
  • YEAR SIX
  • PhD students are required to complete their degree
