Orientation

School of Public Health Orientation

Welcome to the School of Public Health!

As a student admitted to one of our programs in September, you are expected to participate in and attend orientation. This orientation will provide you with vital information as you prepare to start your graduate program in our faculty.

More detailed information about your orientation will appear here in July.

Goal

Students experience a smooth transition to graduate studies and acquire, or become aware of, the knowledge, skills, attitudes and supports that will help them succeed.

Principles

  • Orientation is multi-faceted, extending both before and following the formal orientation days.
  • Orientation is to meet the needs of all students, in all degrees and specializations (MPH, MSc and PhD), in both campus and distance learning formats.
  • Activities will provide opportunities for interaction and multi-directional sharing of information, rather than one-way conveyance of information.
  • All activities, events and presentations will be designed to reflect the diversity of the School (e.g. students, faculty, programs, disciplines, areas of expertise).
  • The objectives of the orientation will guide the timing, time allotment and structure of both formal orientation and associated orientation activities.
  • Orientation activities will actively promote appropriate participation of faculty, staff and returning students.

Phases

  • Phase 1: SPH 101 (online orientation) - eClass portal log in page
  • Phase 2: Program Planning Consultation (June to July, depending upon the program)
  • Phase 3: On-campus Orientation activities Aug 31 - Sept. 10
