Sociology department members were very well represented at yesterday's university-wide Celebration of Research and Innovation. Kevin Haggerty received the 2008 Martha Cook Piper Research Prize (the top university research prize for scholars early in their career). Other department members who received research awards in 2008 who were acknowledged at this event included Greg Bowden, Phil Boyle, Rachel Campbell, Sara Dorow, Greg Eklics, Josh Freistadt, Petra Hroch, Julie Hudson, Carla Ickert, Heather Jiang, Paul Joosse, Amy Klassen, Marie Leduc, Terra Manca, Lane Mandlis, Olga Pak, Susan Raine, Maryam Razavy, and Laura Templeton. In the video describing the research of Business PhD student Tyler Wry, his supervisor, Michael Lounsbury, Adjunct Professor in our department, began by saying that Tyler was unusual because he had an MA in Sociology (from our department).
