The department of sociology is pleased to announce that Meryn Severson has been awarded the 2015 Frances A. Puffer Scholarship. This Scholarship is awarded annually to a sociology major student entering their third year who has a GPA of 3.5 or higher and a record of community service and/or volunteer activity.

Meryn is a third year Sociology and Human Geography double major student, who is passionate about both disciplines. Over her first two years of university, Meryn has maintained a perfect 4.0 average. This past summer, she worked as a research assistant for Dr. Michelle Maroto in the department of sociology, assisting with a project on wealth inequality in Canada and with Dr. Manish Shirgaokar, in the Planning program, working on a project on transportation policies, ride-sourcing, and senior's mobility in Canada and the United States.

When she finishes her undergraduate degree at the University of Alberta, Meryn hopes to work in fields such as development, census and demography, social policy, and potentially go to graduate school. Outside of the classroom, Meryn works as a monitor at a recreation centre in Strathcona County, and is involved in the Lutheran Student Movement and the Geography and Planning Students' Society. She also likes to knit and listen to music in her spare time.

Congratulations to Meryn on her outstanding achievement!
