Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced his proposal to appoint the Honourable Mary T. Moreau to the Supreme Court of Canada.

26 October 2023

On Thursday, October 26, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that he was proposing to appoint the Honourable Mary T. Moreau to the Supreme Court of Canada.

The entire Saint-Jean community is delighted by this news, and proud that such an illustrious Alumna has been nominated for appointment to the country's highest judicial institution.

A judge since 1994 and Chief Justice of the Court of King's Bench of Alberta since 2017, the Honourable Mary Moreau had previously worked relentlessly for the rights of linguistic minorities. It was thanks in part to her work as a lawyer that Francophones in minority communities were granted the right to manage their own schools.

The Honourable Mary Moreau is an important pillar of our community. The University of Alberta awarded her an honorary doctorate in 2019, and Campus Saint-Jean presented her with its Médaille du Doyen in February 2020.

On behalf of the entire Campus Saint-Jean community, I welcome this proposal from the Prime Minister and congratulate the Honourable Mary Moreau. Our pride is matched only by her talents as a jurist and her dedication to justice.
