Course Failure Policy

Students enrolled in the MSc SLP clinical or thesis track program must pass all courses required for the degree. A course grade below C+ on the University of Alberta's letter grading system is a failing grade. Students who fail to obtain a passing grade of C+ or higher or who fail to complete a course required for the MSc SLP degree must have the approval of the department and the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research (FGSR) to retake the course and must obtain a passing grade to continue in the program. Requests to retake a course or courses will be considered on a case-by-case basis. A student approved to retake a course will not be able to enroll in certain advanced courses that require the failed course as a prerequisite until the failed course is completed. Therefore, students who are approved to retake courses will automatically require modified programs, which may extend their time to completion of the MSc SLP degree.
