Leading with Purpose
Effective leaders know not only how they lead, but why they lead the way they do.
The GCES - Leadership in Higher Education provides preparation for a broad range of administration and leadership roles in public and non-government sectors in Canadian postsecondary education institutions. This program will be of interest to those already working in post-secondary and looking to enhance their current qualifications, as well as those seeking to transition into a career in higher education.

- This program can ladder into a Master's degree. Click here for more information.
- This program does not qualify students for Alberta Teacher Certification.
Program Goals
The following program goals are specific to Leadership in Higher Education, with an emphasis on the following:
- Foundational knowledge in higher education systems and organizations
- A broad overview of higher education as an industry
- A broad range of perspectives in the higher education landscape relating to the roles of governance and organizational management
- Evidence-informed decision-making approaches about the different kinds of leadership practices
- An awareness of key legal and ethical issues unique to institutions of higher education, ranging from academic freedom to intellectual property policies
- Working knowledge, based on theoretical and practical research, necessary for understanding a broad range of leadership roles within complex and changing higher educational environments.
