Application Process

Applicants to MD Program must first complete and submit payment for the Application for Admission (AFA). Following this, you will complete required checklist items and forms in your UAlberta Launchpad. Both the AFA and your UAlberta Launchpad checklist forms are due October 4, 2023 at 1:00:00PM MT. Please note that without paying for the AFA, all of the required checklist items may not populate on Launchpad. While you may see certain items on Launchpad, the complete secondary application may not be present until payment is received as Launchpad will populate off of the AFA once paid for and submitted.

Application for Admission

The application itself is supported by the Office of the Registrar's Student Service Centre. Any questions about the AFA (primary application) should be directed to:

We recommend that you use an internet browser such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox when completing the application as some versions of Internet Explorer are not compatible.

*Applicants should closely refer to the Application Requirements,Important Notices & Dates, and FAQ while filling out an Application for Admission (AFA).

University of Alberta Medical School Application Fee Waiver Program

Applicant/Application Reference Number

You will be assigned an Applicant/Application Reference number when you begin your application. This is a 9-digit number and can be found at the top of the right hand menu in your UAlberta Launchpad. Please reference this number when requesting help with your application. This number is not the same as your Student ID.

Student ID

You will receive an email with your unique 7-digit UofA Student ID number once you submit and pay for the AFA. This will remain constant each year that you apply. It may take some time to be assigned to you, after which you will also find it at the top of your UAlberta Launchpad. If it is blank then one has not yet been assigned to you. This number is not the same as your Applicant/Application Reference Number.

CCID

All students and applicants are assigned a University of Alberta Campus Computing ID (CCID). Your CCID is used to access UAlberta.ca email and Bear Tracks (student service system).

The first time you apply to the UofA you will receive an email with your new CCID and password. You will use this information to log into your ccid@ualberta.ca email account.

For more information on your CCID and help with obtaining your CCID or password, contact IST.

For more information on how to interpret messages in Bear Tracks, refer to the Bear Tracks User Guide or contact the Office of the Registrar.

UAlberta.ca Email

Your ccid@ualberta.ca assigned by the university is the email address to which all official communications will be sent. Check your e-mail at least once per week. Communication from the University is sent to UAlberta.ca email accounts only, not personal email accounts. Failure to receive or read University communications sent to your UAlberta.ca email address in a timely manner does not absolve an applicant from knowing, responding to, or complying with the content of the communication.

University of Alberta uses the Gmail platform; you can log in through google.ca using your full ccid@ualberta.ca account name, which will redirect you to ualberta.ca to authenticate with just your CCID and password.

If you already use a Gmail account you will need to log out of that one first or link your accounts. To link your accounts, while logged into your primary account, select your user icon in the upper right hand corner. In the menu that pops up select "Add Account" and follow the instructions. You will then be able to access both email accounts at the same time, either by having a tab open for each account or by toggling between the two accounts as required.

If you do not already have a Gmail account and would prefer to keep your primary email account, you may forward your UAlberta.ca email to your primary account.

Forms

Forms, including Personal Activity forms, are automatically populated based on the responses you submitted in the AFA. As such, your Forms may take up to 60 minutes to fully populate. The average Form population time is 30 minutes.

All required Forms must be submitted by the application deadline of October 4, 2023 at 1:00:00PM MT for your application to be considered complete. Failure to do so will result in the closure of your file.

As we are still working on the functionality that would allow applicants to view their forms after the application deadline, we HIGHLY RECOMMEND that applicants make sure to save a copy of what they are submitting before the application deadline. If not, you will not be able to view your forms after you submit them.

MCAT Scores

For admission for Fall 2024, we are accepting MCAT scores written October 1, 2018 through September 2, 2023.

When choosing your MCAT test date you should keep in mind that test results must be released to us, entered into your application, and verified in the UAlberta Launchpad prior to the application deadline. As such, you should be reviewing the test score release dates when choosing your test date.

Enter your official MCAT scores from a single testing date. If you have written the MCAT more than one time, choose your best set of scores from a single test with the highest average, keeping in mind the minimum scores required, as described in the application requirements.

Ensure that you release your scores to the University of Alberta through the AAMC website. You will not be able to edit your scores after we have verified them.

After MCAT scores have been released to the University of Alberta, scores are manually verified by the Admissions team no more than once a week. If your scores do not verify there is likely a discrepancy between the information you have provided and that is available to us from AAMC (typically the AAMC ID is entered incorrectly by an applicant); or you were not included in verifications that week and will be included in the next. Please determine the discrepancy and rectify it. Your MCAT scores must be verified in your UAlberta Launchpad prior to the deadline of October 4, 2023 at 1:00:00PM MT.

The single set of test scores that you submit with your application are the only set of scores we will use. You must meet the minimum requirements in one sitting. We do not require applicants to declare their most recent MCAT test date as long as the test date that they are declaring meets the minimum requirements, and was not written prior to October 1, 2018.

ApplyAlberta

The University of Alberta may be able to obtain transcripts from participating Alberta post-secondary institutions on the applicant's behalf via ApplyAlberta. You will have agreed to this process when completing the Application for Admission. Please check your UAlberta Launchpad for details of which transcripts the Office of the Registrar has requested on your behalf. Please be aware that there are instances where your institution may refuse to send transcripts to us, typically due to unpaid fees or if there is a discrepancy in your identifying information. If this occurs you must settle your account with that institution and request a transcript be sent to us yourself.

Additional Testing (CASPer)

All applicants who successfully complete and submit their Application for Admission will be required to do additional testing in Fall 2023. The online assessment (CASPer), provided by Acuity Insights, will cost approximately $60. Successful completion of CASPer is mandatory in order to maintain admission eligibility. In order to take CASPer, you will be responsible for securing access to a computer with audio capabilities, a webcam, and a reliable internet connection on your selected test date. We do not require that you do the CASPer Snapshot for the 2023/2024 application cycle.

Please go to https://acuityinsights.app/casper/ to sign up and reserve a test using your U of A Student ID Number and a piece of government-issued photo ID.

CASPer test results are valid for one application cycle. Applicants who have already taken the test in previous years will, therefore, be expected to re-take it. Applicants who will be taking the CASPer at an earlier testing date than those mentioned on our website will not need to retake the test. The testing dates listed below are specifically for students who will not have written it at any point prior for any other institution.
