6.6 Extension of Program

The Calendar provides information on the time limit for completion of a graduate degree. Students entering a masters program are expected to complete all requirements within 2-3 years, while students entering a doctoral program are expected complete all requirements within 4-5 years. If a student is unable to complete a thesis based masters degree within 4 years or a doctoral degree within 6 years, then a program extension is required. The information required to support a request for extension is provided in the Calendar. The Associate Dean, Research and Graduate Studies will consider the first request for extension as part of the delegated authority from Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research (Section 5.2). A second request for extension must be submitted to Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research.
