This award was established by Kue Young, dean of the School of Public Health (2013-2018), in memory of his sister Nancy Suen, who passed away in Melbourne in 2018.

Nancy Suen was an educator in Hong Kong, where she served as a school teacher, and later, an instructor in visual arts in a teacher's college. After her retirement she emigrated to Australia. As the eldest of eight siblings, she bore the financial burden of supporting the large family. Strict but loving, she was intimately involved in not just the intellectual, but also the moral development of all her siblings.

Dr. Young created this award to honour his late sister. It was due to her unwavering support, guidance and personal example through the years that he was able to develop fully his academic and professional career.
