Completion of Five Academic Subjects

Students applying for admission from high school must show that they have successfully completed five academic subjects. The academic subjects you need to present will vary by program and Faculty. Find out which subjects you will need to present for your program of choice with the program finder.

  • Iran: Diplom (Year 12) and Pre-University Certificate, or National High School Diploma for Grade 12 Completion and Transcript of marks, or National Entrance Exam (Konkur) result.

  • Jordan: Tawjihiya (General Secondary Education Certificate)

Indian National & State Boards Curricula

You can enter the University of Alberta using Class XII CBSE and CISCE national boards, or a state-issued board results. To obtain a conditional offer, you would need your school results including confirmation of registration in your final year. Your offer would become unconditional upon receipt of your final board exam results and meeting the University of Alberta's requirements.

The grading range for CBSE, CISCE, and state boards are similar, and would depend on the passing scale you present from your high school (33%, 35%, 40% etc.)

English Language Proficiency

Students in CBSE or CISCE schools, who present 75%+ on their final Class XII exams, meet our UAlberta English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirement. For a full list of ways to meet ELP please see Language Requirements.

Admission is based on a competitive average in the 5 required courses for a program. The following are guidelines of what minimum GPA/grades/marks are considered competitive. These are ranges and may be subject to change. Not all international grading scales are equal and the final determination will be made by the Office of the Registrar upon submission of an application for admission. These guidelines are for informational purposes only. In the case of discrepancy between this website and the University of Alberta International Admissions Unit, the decision of the International Admissions Unit is final.


Students who are finishing high school in the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait, with an average grade of 80% or higher are automatically considered for the

University of Alberta International Country Scholarships

Field of Study: Open

Value: up to $5,000 in entry year only

Quantity available: Up to 95 worldwide

Conditions: Awarded to a student with superior academic achievement entering the first year of an undergraduate degree at the University of Alberta who are studying on a Study Permit. Students sponsored by a third party are ineligible.

Application procedure: You will be automatically considered for this award after you have received admission to the University of Alberta.

Decision timeline: University of Alberta International Country Scholarship offers will be made on a rolling basis at or near the time of offer of admission.

The number of International Country Scholarships is limited and early application is encouraged.
