Join physicians from the Department of Medicine for a practical, evidence-informed introduction to heart health. Learn how your heart works, what increases your risk of heart disease, and the everyday habits that can make a difference. We'll discuss common questions about blood pressure, cholesterol, nutrition, exercise, and other factors that influence heart health, along with warning signs that shouldn't be ignored.

We'll also explore common myths about supplements, fad diets, wearable devices, and products marketed as "heart healthy", helping you make informed decisions based on current medical understanding.

About the Speaker

Dr. Michelle Graham, Professor and Division Director, Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine

Dr. Graham is a cardiologist and interventional cardiologist with extensive experience caring for people with heart conditions and advancing cardiovascular health.

She earned her medical degree from the University of Ottawa and completed her medical training at Western University, Dalhousie University and the University of Calgary. 

Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Graham has played a leadership role in Canadian cardiovascular care and research. She is a former chair of both the Canadian Cardiovascular Society’s Scientific Program Committee and Guidelines Committee. She is also an associate editor of the Canadian Journal of Cardiology and was the founding editor-in-chief of CJC Open.

Dr. Graham has served on numerous research and peer-review committees, including with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. She also chairs the Quality Management Committee for the Alberta Strategic Clinical Network for Cardiovascular Health and Stroke, helping support quality improvement in cardiovascular care across Alberta.
