In Memoriam - Suraj Parkash Khetarpal B.Sc. B.L. LL.M. Ph.D., Professor Emeritus.

Katherine Thompson - 16 January 2012

June 9, 1925 - January 7, 2012

It is with great sadness that the Faculty announces the death of Dr. Suraj Khetarpal, Professor Emeritus. Suraj passed away peacefully at the Royal Alexandra Hospital on January 7, 2012 with his family at his side. He had been hospitalized several weeks earlier after an accident in his home.

Suraj Khetarpal, or "Dr. K" as he was known to most of us, grew up in Burma where he received his first law degree. He then undertook graduate work at the University of London (LL.M.) and Cambridge University (Ph.D.). He commenced his law teaching career at the University of Singapore from where he was recruited to the Faculty to teach in the area of family law. He continued in that field for most of his lengthy career at the Faculty (1965-1992). He also taught in the areas of Equity and Agency.

Suraj was a kind and considerate colleague who acted as a generous mentor and friend to a generation or more of law students who will forever remember with fondness "Dr. K". He was one of the true characters on the Faculty who was intensely proud and fond of his Faculty and colleagues.

After his retirement, he maintained an occasional practice on campus providing Notary Public services, on a pro bono basis, to hundreds of students from across the university.
