In Memoriam - Brian E Peterson QC

Katherine Thompson - 6 February 2012

October 15, 1952 - January 17, 2012

It is with great sadness that the Faculty announces the death of Brian Peterson, Q.C. Brian passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, at his home in Edmonton on January 17, 2012. He was 59 years old.

Brian graduated from the University of Alberta with a degree in Law. He built a successful career as a Crown Prosecutor with Alberta Justice, an Assistant Professor of Law at the University of Alberta and working with the Department of Justice. He then went into private practice as a defence lawyer with the law firm of Pringle Peterson McDonald and Bottos and later the law firm of Cleall. Brian earned the respect of his peers, the Bench, and the court staff. "He was a happy, collegial friend who was always a formidable presence in the courtroom". Over the years he served as President of Alberta Crown Attorneys Association, Bencher of the Law Society of Alberta, and other committees.

Throughout his life, family and friends remained paramount often centered around summers at the family cabin on Pigeon Lake. The accomplishment he was most proud of was his children. Brian was a fun-loving and involved parent and he loved cheering on his kids at their sporting events. Brian is survived by his loving wife, Kelly Andres, and their children, Cole (18) and Kianna Peterson (16).
