FIRST AND SECOND YEAR STUDENTS APPLICATION INFORMATION AND DEADLINE

Do you already volunteer in your spare time? Why not consider devoting more time to community service AND increase your substantive and procedural knowledge about legal issues facing marginalized groups - while getting course credit?

LOW INCOME INDIVIDUALS AND THE LAW CLINICAL AND SEMINAR COURSE

Acceptance in the course is through application and interview process.

The Application deadline is April 5, 2012

Please submit your resume, a letter outlining your experience and how it prepares you for this course, and your unofficial transcript to kcordero@law.ualberta.ca by April 5, 2012.

Students in the course will:

  • work for two terms at the Edmonton Community Legal Centre or Legal Aid Alberta offices;
  • assist in meeting the legal needs of low income citizens;
  • learn about the legal, social, cultural, and political background to issues of access to justice for Canadians with low or no income;
  • develop some of the skills necessary in the practice of law;
  • connect experiential learning with substantive and theoretical knowledge of legal issues faced by low income individuals;
  • apply their knowledge about professional responsibility; and
  • develop a more in-depth and critical understanding of the social, economic, and cultural context of law and legal service delivery.

For those who did not attend an Information Session, an information package is available from Kim Cordeiro, 4th floor of the Law School.

Note: A second deadline of August 1 is set for visiting and transfer students
