Katherine Thompson - 25 September 2012

Call to U of A Faculty of Law undergraduate students to audition for Twitter Moot.

Deadline: Friday, September 28, 2012

On November 20, 2012 at 10am PST, students from law schools across Canada will argue about whether or not you (and everyone else) have a right to a healt

hy global atmosphere in the world's second ever Twitter Moot, hosted by West Coast Environmental Law (WCEL), Vancouver. This mock court case will allow law students to polish their advocacy skills using statements of 140 characters or less over Twitter, while allowing an international audience to consider what the law has to say about climate change.

In February 2012, the world's first ever Twitter Moot (#twtmoot) was the #1 trending topic in Canada - meaning it was the most discussed issue in the country.

Auditions are now open for teams for this year's Twitter Moot. Each team must consist of two undergraduate law students (any year) from any Canadian law school. This moot will give students great social media exposure, a chance to participate in a (fun) ground breaking event or to promote discussion about climate change, and the chance to win a cash prize of $500.

How to apply:

On or before Friday, September 28, 2012, two students from a Canadian law school may apply by:
Emailing WCEL at agage@wcel.org with their names, email addresses, law school, Twitter usernames, and 140-character (or less) biographies;
AND
Both team mates tweeting 2 tweets each with the hashtag #twtmoot about the #twtmoot and why they want, or should be selected, to compete.

WCEL will then invite five teams from across Canada to compete in the Twitter Moot.

Last year's winning team was from Osgoode (Moot Champions), and the University of Victoria team was selected for the People's Choice Award. The other schools invited to compete were Dalhousie, Ottawa and UBC.
