Alberta Land Institute Property Rights research project by Professors David Percy and Eran Kaplinsky

In February 2013, UALberta Faculty of Law Professors Eran Kaplinsky and David Percy were awarded $37,000 in funding over a one year period, by Alberta Land Institute (ALI), for a research project entitled, "Assessing Property Rights and Land Use in Alberta". The one-year research project focuses on property rights and land use in Alberta.

Over the past ten months, the researchers have been working on fulfilling the three main objectives of this program:

  • Analyzing the constitutional, legal, and regulatory framework within which property rights in the province are demarcated.
  • Articulating the current scope of real property rights in the province and highlight the critical issues arising from recent land use initiatives.
  • Producing a plain language guide to property rights in the province to serve as a resource for policymakers, stakeholders, and the general public.
