2014 American Bar Association Negotiation Competition

UAlberta Law competes at international negotiations competition

Faculty of Law Communications - 14 November 2014

The annual American Bar Association Negotiation Competition took place in Seattle, WA over the past weekend with Omolara Oladipo as coach to Brett Lojczyc and Alexander Kucey who represented the University of Alberta. Teams from the Universities of Victoria, British Columbia and Calgary also participated in the same region.

Brett and Alex approached the competition in a professional and diligent manner as did the other Canadian teams. The Universities of Alberta and Calgary both competed against the team from the University of Montana College of Law, which came in first place overall. The University of Victoria (coached by Jennifer Wong of the Vancouver Dentons Office) narrowly missed the 4th place cut-off to advance to the final round. Although none of the Western Canadian teams advanced to the final round, all of them worked diligently leading up to the competition, and both teams performed admirably.

Brett and Alex offer their sincere thanks to Dentons Canada LLP for sponsoring this competition and for giving them this great opportunity to compete at an international level, and to hone their practical negotiation skills. Their attendance at the international Competition provided them with additional cultural and professional exposure which will benefit them in the future.

Dentons Canada LLP is the only law firm which continues to encourage and provide this level of support for law students to compete in the practical, skill-based ABA Negotiation Competition. This proud tradition of commitment is recognized and valued by the American Bar Association and by the Faculty of Law.
