Alberta Law Reform Initiative

Professor Tamara Buckwold speaks to the CBA Real Property North section on current initiatives for reforming provincial law

Law Faculty Communications - 14 November 2014

Professor Tamara Buckwold recently spoke to the Canadian Bar Association Real Property North section on current initiatives for reforming the provincial law of fraudulent conveyances and fraudulent preferences (November 12, 2014). Professor Buckwold led a Uniform Law Conference of Canada project proposing that the provinces and territories adopt a uniform Reviewable Transactions Act, legislation that would modernize and clarify an area of law still rooted in the Statute of Elizabeth, 1571. Alberta led the country in reforming the related area of judgment enforcement law through enactment of the Civil Enforcement Act, implementing recommendations advanced by the Alberta Law Reform Institute. Professor Buckwold is now working with the Alberta Law Reform Institute to develop recommendations for the adoption of an Alberta version of the Reviewable Transactions Act.
