UAlberta Faculty of Law's Professor Roderick J. Wood traveled to Prince Edward Island to deliver two sessions on new and emerging developments in personal property security law at the Joint CBA PEI Branch/Law Society of PEI Continuing Legal Education Workshop on June 20, 2014.This Professional Development Day was held at Crowbush Cove on the scenic north east shore of PEI.
The first session dealt with flawed asset arrangements, the Cape Town Convention, the use of licences and quotas as collateral, the drafting and review of security agreements, and the use of common law and equitable principles to supplement the PPSA.
The second session examined the effect of bankruptcy on priorities, Bank Act security, and the security interests in investment property. Working through the intricacies of Bank Act security in fishing boats and PPSA security interests in fishing licences produces a powerful appetite, and so the plate of lobster at the CBA banquet in the evening was heartily welcomed by Professor Wood.
