Law Communications - 26 February 2015

The Faculty of Law welcomes back Professor Joanna Harrington from a visit to the University of Western Australia Faculty of Law, located in the sunny city of Perth, where she delivered a guest lecture to faculty and students on "Neighbourliness, National Values, and Counter-terrorism: A Canadian Perspective." Harrington's lecture examined the impact of the desire to be good neighbours on the legal efforts to counter terrorism, drawing on recent Canada-US experience with respect to changing views on matters of jurisdiction, penalties and punishment, offence identification, and the rights of victims.

While in Perth, Professor Harrington also met with members of UWA's Faculty of Law with a view to establishing collaborative links. The University of Western Australia is a member of the "Group of 8" of leading Australian universities, and like U of A Law, UWA Law proudly counts the country's Chief Justice as one of its alumni. Both U of A and UWA are also members of the Worldwide Universities Network, a leading global higher education and research network made up of 18 universities, spanning 10 countries on five continents.
