The Coughlin/Western Canada/Sopinka Trial Cup Moot focuses on the analysis of a criminal case, and presentation of the same to a jury. The moot is designed to prepare students for a jury trial, working with live witnesses and tendering evidence.

After winning the Coughlin Moot competition, University of Alberta's Faculty of Law students Dib Aytenifsu and Amanda Goodwin, along with coaches Shawn Beaver and Alexandra Seaman, participated in the Western Canada Trial moot competition. The team had a brilliant showing, with Amanda's application of the Canada Evidence Act creating quite a stir.

Coach Alexandra Seaman was very proud of her charges, "it's fantastic to watch the students grow into what we think will be absolutely fantastic lawyers." She has coached the event for three years now with Shawn Beaver, and is looking forward to returning again next year. Advice for the 2016 moot participants? Alexandra says "Come in with an open mind and give it everything you've got."
