On Wednesday, June 3, 2015-Students, faculty, family, and friends gathered at Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium to celebrate the University of Alberta Faculty of Law and Faculty of Education Spring Convocation 2015.
University of Alberta Faculty of Law, Dean Paul Paton presented 149 Juris Doctor (JD) degrees, along with one Master of Laws (LLM) to recipient, Ghazi Habibullah Durrani.
During the ceremony, Mr. David Hancock, was presented with an honorary Doctor of Laws degree. Hancock, a graduate of the UofA in both political science and law, has made important contributions to the province of Alberta throughout his political career and is better known for being the 15th Premier of Alberta.
Mr. Hancock, spoke of the important role the University of Alberta has played in his life and the experiences he gained from his seven years on campus.
"Law and education: two of the most important foundations of our society. The rule of law is the basis of civil society. And the education of our young is the very future of our society," said Hancock.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held on the second floor in the Law Centre, allowing graduates a chance to celebrate their academic achievements with their family and friends. It also gave Dean Paton a chance to recognize three outstanding JD graduates.
Adam Ollenberger was awarded the Horace Harvey Medal in Law, awarded to a graduating student for the highest standing in the work prescribed in the JD degree.
Iman Jomha was awarded the George Bligh O'Connor Silver Medal in Law, awarded annually to the graduating student with the second highest academic standing in the work prescribed for the JD degree.
Adrienne Funk was awarded the Judges' Bronze Medal, awarded annually to the graduating student who stands third throughout his/her studies in the JD program.
