www.insolvency.ca - 6 July 2015

On behalf of all IIC members, we extend our deepest condolences to the family of Justice Gregory Forsyth, who passed away at age 87 on June 16, 2015.

Justice Forsyth was one of the pioneer insolvency judges in Calgary, and Canada. He served before Commercial Lists and social media, but was sought after to supervise the large and complex files of the day.

A proud Calgarian, he graduated from the University of Alberta with his law degree, training in the summers for the Canadian Air Force and became a pilot. He started his career in law with the CPR Law Department first in Calgary, transferring later to Toronto and Montreal, while continuing to serve as a reserve pilot for the Air Force. He returned to Calgary in 1959 joining the law firm of Howard Mackie and later became a partner.

Mr. Forsyth was appointed a Justice in the Court of Queen's Bench in 1979 and was a Justice for 23 and a half years until his retirement. He later joined the law firm of Bordon Ladner Gervais for a few years. He thoroughly enjoyed his time practicing law and being a member of the Court of Queen's Bench.

In addition to his distinguished law career, he was a long-time volunteer of the Calgary Stampede, a member of the Calgary Golf and Country Glencoe Club. He was an active member of the Air Crew Association in Calgary and loved all sports as an avid fan of the Calgary Flames and the Calgary Stampeders. He enjoyed many years at his cabin at Bar-Kay-Cee in Bragg Creek, spending time with family and friends.

His intelligence, wit and kindness from the Bench was unsurpassed.

Donations can be made to the Calgary Poppy Fund / Veterans Food Bank 1-4539-6th Street, North East Calgary, AB, T2E 3Z6. Tel: 403-265-6304.
