Gillian Reid - 29 January 2016

On Tuesday, January 26, the University of Alberta Faculty of Law held a Public Law Career Fair which took place from 12-1:30pm on the second floor of the Law Centre.

Students were able to gain useful information and advice about pursuing a legal career in government, public interests, human rights, and a number of other areas from the 19 organizations from Edmonton and Calgary who participated in the fair.

The organizations involved were

  • Alberta Civil Liberties Research Centre

  • Alberta Crown Prosecution Service

  • Alberta Justice

  • Alberta Law Reform Institute

  • Alberta Office of the Ombudsman

  • Calgary Legal Guidance Clinic

  • Centre for Constitutional Studies

  • City of Edmonton

  • Court of Appeal of Alberta

  • Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta

  • Department of Justice (Canada)

  • Ecojustice

  • Edmonton Community Legal Centre

  • Family Law Office (Legal Aid)

  • John Howard Society

  • Legal Aid Alberta

  • Municipal Government Board of Alberta

  • Royal Canadian Mounted Police

  • Youth Criminal Defence Office (Legal Aid)

For students who are curious about careers outside the traditional law firm, the career fair provided an opportunity to learn more about the various organizations and was a valuable resource for information about the career options that are out there.

Thanks to those who participated and who made Public Law Career Day a success!
