Distinguished Service Awards

9 February 2016

The University of Alberta Faculty of Law congratulates Professor Mitchell McInnes, '88 and Christine Pratt, ‎'92, President of Alumni and Friends, on being recognized by the CBA Alberta and the Law Society of Alberta with its Distinguished Service Awards. Dean Paul D. Paton attended the awards luncheon and reception at the CBA Alberta Law Conference on January 29.

Professor McInnes was recognized with the Distinguished Service Award for Legal Scholarship.

During his remarks, Professor McInnes made special mention of the 15 years he dedicated to authoring his book, The Canadian Law of Unjust Enrichment and Restitution. He wanted not only to offer theoretical analysis on the issues, but to ensure that the work could be a practical resource for both the bench and the bar. The award validated the importance of recognizing the contributions of scholarship to and for the profession.

Fellow recipient Douglas Moe, Q.C., who was recognized for service to the profession, brought the house down by whipping out a copy (if it is possible to "whip out" a copy of a 1200+ page book) and stepping off the podium to have Prof. McInnes autograph a copy!

Christine Pratt, President of Alumni and Friends, sessional instructor and partner at Field Law in Edmonton, was honoured with the Distinguished Service Award in Pro Bono Legal Service.

Congratulations to both Professor McInnes and Ms. Pratt, and to the other award recipients Douglas Moe, Q.C. and Michelle Christopher.
