Law Show 2016 - Ferris Beullaw's Day Off

Law Show celebrates 20th Anniversary

9 February 2016

On February 5-6, 2016, in the Horowitz Performing Arts Theatre, Law Show celebrated its 20th Anniversary with its presentation of Ferris Buellaw's Day Off, starring Shayla Hardy (1L), Tyler McDonough (2L), Alex Camenzind (3L), and Conor Holash (2L). (Last year was thought to have been the 20th anniversary but new documentary evidence has proven otherwise.) True to its tradition, Law Show 2016 offered a humorous and satirical take on the law school experience.

This year, Law Show followed the adventures of Ferris Buellaw as he skips Professional Responsibility and avoids the wrath of Interim Vice Dean Edward Rooney. Along the way, Buellaw helps his best friend Cameron pursue his (unhealthy) dream of clerking with the Right Honourable Beverley McLachlin.

Law Show 2016, like its previous iterations, was an excellent display of the broad range of talent possessed by the Faculty of Law's student body. Students presented their considerable acting, singing, dancing, and musical abilities in a variety of acts, musical numbers, and digital shorts. In addition to the many talented students on stage, recognition must also be given to those who worked hard behind the scenes: the members of the Technical Crew, Production Committee, and Theatrical Committee all contributed to the show's great success.

Bronwhyn Simmons, this year's executive producer, says the best thing about being in Law Show is "spending time with other law students-the camaraderie developed is unparalleled."

Law Show will again donate its proceeds to support Youth Empowerment and Support Services (YESS). YESS, founded in 1981, is a non-profit focused on helping at-risk Edmonton youths aged 15 to 20. YESS provides these young persons with services that include short-term shelter, longer-term housing, medical care, counseling, and educational programs.

Finally, Law Show would not be able to operate, let alone donate its proceeds to charity, without the help of its generous sponsors. Thank you for supporting Law Show 2016.
