Dean Paton Welcomes Admitted Students of the Class of 2019

Law Centre abuzz on March 12 for Admitted Students' Day.

Law Communications - 16 March 2016

March 12 was a busy day at the University of Alberta Faculty of Law as Dean Paton welcomed admitted students of the Class of 2019 for the Dean's Welcome - Admitted Students' Day. The annual event saw more than 225 admitted students and their families descend upon the Law Centre for a day of school tours and an opportunity to hear from Dean Paton, faculty members, Student Services staff, alumni, and current students. Upon arriving, the students and their families were greeted by the friendly faces of current law student volunteers and Student Services staff before being guided upstairs to enjoy their first cup of coffee and breakfast treats from Hello My Friend Café.

With refreshments and swag bags in hand, the students and their families gathered in McLennan Ross Hall for the morning session, which consisted of welcome remarks from Dean Paton, the alumni perspective from Scott Poitras, Student-at-Law at Bennett Jones LLP, and reflections on the student experience from Dharam Dhillion, president of the Law Students' Association; Sarah Sager, executive director, Student Legal Services; Paul Kolida, president of the Golden Bearristers Law Rugby Team; Jacqueline LeBlanc, president of the Panda Bearristers Law Rugby Team; and, last but not least, James Park, representing student mooters. 3L students Kate Andress and Iwan Davies acted as emcees.

Following the welcome session, students were divided into groups for guided tours of the Law Centre, including Knowledge Café stops, where they had the opportunity to meet with and ask questions of our knowledgeable faculty, staff, and members of our student groups. After lunch, the tours continued.

Thank you to the many student volunteers, faculty, and staff for your hard work making the Dean's Welcome such a success. Class of 2019, we look forward to seeing you in September!
