Faculty of Law and Student Legal Services Celebrate Law Day 2016

Law Day Alberta celebrations open to the public at the Edmonton Law Courts

Law Communications - 19 April 2016

On Saturday, April 16, University of Alberta Faculty of Law faculty members, staff, and students participated in Law Day 2016 at the Edmonton Law Courts, an annual event open to the public, with activities for the whole family.

The Alberta Branch of the Canadian Bar Association works in conjunction and with financial support from the Alberta Law Foundation and the Law Society of Alberta to organize activities throughout the province to celebrate Law Day. The Canadian Bar Association introduced Law Day in 1983 as a way to educate the public about the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, which was signed into law by Queen Elizabeth II on April 17, 1982.

Law Day 2016 was packed with fun filled and informative events from 9:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. This year, Law Day played host to more than 25 booths and exhibits - including those of the Faculty and Student Legal Services - set up along the corridors of the courthouse. Several mock trials also took place throughout the day.
