Faculty of Law and Alberta Law Reform Institute Offer Workspace to Displaced Fort McMurray Lawyers

Canadian Bar Association Alberta Branch to coordinate requests for space.

Law Communications - 9 May 2016

The Faculty of Law and the Alberta Law Reform Institute (ALRI) share the concern of all Albertans and indeed all Canadians for those affected by the crisis in Fort McMurray. We are working with our University of Alberta colleagues to ensure a coordinated response and to offer our assistance and support for our students and those others who are affected in so many ways. We encourage everyone to consider contributing to the Canadian Red Cross and in other ways that might best assist our first responders and others focused on the immediate needs of everyone impacted.

In addition to our other efforts, the Faculty of Law and ALRI are offering workspace at the Law Centre to displaced Fort McMurray lawyers. The Canadian Bar Association (CBA) Alberta Branch is coordinating requests for space and will work with the Faculty of Law, ALRI, and the many Alberta law firms that have also offered space to fulfill requests.

"During such a difficult time for our Fort McMurray colleagues - many of whom are Faculty of Law alumni - and our students, we will do what we can to assist in ways that best support the emergency efforts. That includes the modest but important offer of workspace within the Faculty to Fort McMurray and region lawyers and law students," said Dean Paul Paton.

Fort McMurray lawyers and law students needing workspace are encouraged to contact at the CBA Alberta Branch at 780-428-1230 or edmonton2@cba-alberta.org.
