Alberta Venture's annual list of "movers, shakers, and difference-makers" released.

Law Communications - 4 July 2016

Congratulations to University of Alberta Faculty of Law Professor Timothy Caulfield, who was named to Alberta Venture magazine's 50 Most Influential Albertans list for 2016.

Alberta Venture releases its list annually to recognize Alberta's "movers, shakers, and difference-makers." Prof. Caulfield - a Canada Research Chair, Fellow of the Trudeau Foundation, and Research Director of the Health Law Institute - is in good company on the list, alongside Premier Notley, business leaders such as Suncor CEO Steve Williams, and University of Alberta colleagues Dr. Ibolja Cernak, Dr. Faith Davis, Dr. Richard Sutton, and Dr. Kris Wells. Prof. Caulfield also earned a spot on the magazine's list in 2014.

"In a 'quick fix' world eager to adopt the latest 'miracle cure', Professor Caulfield urges caution and applies critical thinking and assessment when evaluating the latest scientific research," said Dean Paul Paton. "Tim is an effective communicator and his advocacy work encouraging the public to seek out evidence-based evaluations of health myths and assumptions truly serves the broader public interest, further demonstrating the value of public investment in the Faculty and University to support this important work. He is also a mentor to up and coming stars through his leadership work with the Faculty of Law's Health Law Institute, and provides enormous professional and personal support. I was honoured to nominate Tim for the 2016 Confederation of Alberta Faculty Associations' Distinguished Academic Award, which he will receive in September, and I'm pleased to see him recognized as one of Alberta's most influential people. This most recent accolade recognizes his significant contributions to the development of Canadian health and science policy and shines a deserving spotlight on the work being done at the Health Law Institute."
