Beloved. Essential. Genuine. These are three words used by faculty, staff, and students to describe Tim Young, the Faculty of Law's Web Developer and TWEN / Exam 4 Administrator. (In his spare time, Tim is a champion stair runner and regularly wins grueling bike tours.) Tim's commitment to client service at the University of Alberta and the Faculty of Law was acknowledged with the IT Client Service Award on Thursday, August 25 during the University's 2016 Information Technology Awards ceremony.

"Tim Young is an outstanding choice for the IT Client Service Award," said Dean Paul Paton. "Tim is an indispensable part of the fabric of our Faculty. He combines an amazing battery of technical knowledge and expertise with an outstanding level of service, and something even more profound: a calming presence. Prior to arriving at the Faculty as Dean in July 2014, I didn't know that one could use the words "lawyers", "technology", and "calm" in the same sentence. Tim makes that possible. We are extremely lucky to have someone with his dedication, warmth, and approach to client service. Faculty, staff and students alike offered so many illustrations of Tim's excellence in support of the nomination, and we all celebrate his receiving the award."

Since joining the Faculty of Law in 2004, Tim has ensured that technology is accessible and runs seamlessly for faculty, staff, and students. Whether assisting a professor with a Skype interview for a class or helping a student fix a laptop during an exam, Tim is always there to get the job done, with patience and skill. Tim has also navigated the Faculty through test piloting electronic student exams and is involved with the online delivery of course materials via the specialized law school portal TWEN.

"I strive to give the best I have to offer and am grateful to faculty, staff, and students for the ongoing positive feedback I receive about my work, which lets me know I'm on the right track, and has encouraged me to keep doing what I do," said Tim Young. "We have such a tight-knit community at the Faculty of Law and I thank you all for your appreciation and support."

Each year, the Office of the Vice Provost and Associate Vice President (Information Services & Technology) sponsors five awards to recognize the outstanding efforts of the University's talented information technology faculty, staff, and students: the IT Distinguished Career Award, IT Ambassador Award, IT Excellence Award, IT Client Service Award, and IT Unsung Hero Award.

From your colleagues and friends at the Faculty of Law, congratulations Tim, and thank you for your outstanding service to our community and to the University.
