Law Communications - 26 September 2016

Three Faculty of Law professors were honoured on Wednesday, September 21 at the University of Alberta's annual Celebrate! Teaching, Learning and Research ceremony: Professor Barbara Billingsley for her Rutherford Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching; Professor Joanna Harrington for her Fulbright Canada Visiting Research Chair in Policy Studies; and Professor Peter Sankoff for his Brightspace Innovation Award in Teaching and Learning. The ceremony, held at the Myer Horowitz Theatre, was co-hosted by Dr. Steven Dew, Provost and Vice-President (Academic), and Dr. Susan Hamilton, Associate Vice-President (Research). Dean Paul Paton was on hand at the ceremony to congratulate Professors Billingsley and Harrington; Professor Sankoff was unable to attend as he is currently away on a research sabbatical. During the ceremony, award recipients and guests were treated to two musical performances, including one by 3L student Jenna Joyce Broomfield, an accomplished Inuk throat singer. In addition to her law studies and work for the Aboriginal Law Students' Association, Jenna travels nationally and internationally for performances, including this past summer to Yellowknife, Switzerland, and Germany. Jenna has also performed at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics Opening Ceremony, the National Inuit Youth Summit, and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's final event. Congratulations to our three Celebrate! honourees, and thank you Jenna, for being such a tremendous ambassador for the Faculty of Law.
