On September 29, the Hon. Jody Wilson-Raybould, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, announced the appointment of Steven N. Mandziuk, QC to the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta.

Justice Mandziuk, who received his LLB from the University of Alberta Faculty of Law in 1991, replaces fellow UAlberta Law alumnus Justice Terry D. Clackson, effective December 17 of this year.

"We are thrilled to see this new judicial appointment of one of our most esteemed alumni," said UAlberta Law Dean Paul Paton.

"Justice Mandziuk is a great friend to our Faculty as a member of our External Advisory Board and Strategic Planning Committee, as well as a tireless community volunteer."

From Edmonton, Justice Mandziuk began his legal career at the Edmonton law firms of Bishop & McKenzie LLP and Barr Picard Barristers & Soliciters, later joining the legal department at Telus Communications Inc. In 2006, he was appointed to his current position as General Counsel to Finning International Inc.'s Canadian operations.

"This appointment is an incredible honour for me," said Justice Mandziuk.

"Service is one of my core values, and coupling that with my profession is something that I have always tried to do. I'm excited to be a part of the Canadian legal system in a new way, and I'm very grateful for the excellent start that I got at the Faculty of Law-three wonderful years followed by a very fulfilling career."
