The winning team of the Dean's Cup is…

First-year moots come to a close as the recipients of the coveted trophy are announced.

Law Communications - 4 April 2017

After five hard-fought preliminary rounds, first year students Gary Mo and Alyssa Kim (Appellants) and Justin Goodman and Laura Perram (Respondents) competed on March 31 in the final round of the Dean's Cup.

Before a panel consisting of Justice Terri Clackson of the Court of Queen's Bench, Dean Paton, and Associate Dean Chris Sprysak, each team argued their position on the fictional appeal of Morriseau v World Federation of Wrestling, a contracts case involving John Morriseau, a professional champion wrestler, who was misled by his employer about the outcome of his final match.

Congratulations to Goodman and Perram, (from the Downey Learning Group), who ultimately took home the trophy, placing first among over a dozen other students in this moot specifically intended to give first years a preview of the mooting experience.

Thank you to all of our preliminary round Dean's Cup judges: Professors Tamara Buckwold, Hadley Friedland, Ron Hopp, John Law, Anna Lund, James Muir, and Ubaka Ogbogu; Robyn Mitchell (Alberta Law Reform Institute); and Steve Smith (Gunn Law Group).

Our thanks as well to the writing fellows who served as court clerks: Brendan Downey, Juliana Ho, Sunny Mann, and Christine Tays.

And of course, sincere thanks to Justice Clackson, for his time and continued support of the moot program.
