UAlberta Law partners with Alberta Lawyers' Assistance Society for sixth annual "Walk for Wellness"

September 21 event encourages a healthy and happy legal community

Priscilla Popp - 15 September 2017

On Thursday, September 21 at noon, students, Faculty, staff and community members will depart from the Law Centre for the sixth annual Alberta Lawyers' Assistance Society (Assist) "Walk for Wellness".

The free 30-to-45-minute walk is designed to encourage and promote physical and mental health. Participants are only asked to pledge their own personal goals such as enjoying more time with family and having more quiet time. Anyone is welcome to attend this rain or shine event.

Walk for Wellness is the latest initiative taken by the University of Alberta Faculty of Law to support mental health and wellness among law students. In March of this year, the Faculty welcomed Olympic champion and mental health advocate Clara Hughes, and during her visit introduced the Michael O'Boyle Memorial Fund, which will provide ongoing support for law student mental health and wellness activities.

In 2015, the Faculty, again in partnership with Assist, arranged to provide free on-site counselling and referral services for law students. Student-run groups like the Mental Health and Wellness Committee also provide ongoing support.

Following the walk, a pizza lunch and prize giveaway will be held in CN Alumni Hall. All participants are encouraged to document their walk on social media and tag @UAlbertaLaw.
