Quality Education and Support
The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry provides learner-centred, fully accredited educational programs. Our goal is to graduate competent, qualified and compassionate practitioners—whether they have trained to be physicians, dentists, dental hygienists or medical laboratory scientists.
We strive to provide a rich, interdisciplinary environment of learning, practice, research and public service for all our students and residents, and our faculty.
Students and residents are well supported by the Office of Learner Advocacy & Wellness and faculty members can access a wide range of workshops, processes, materials and other resources offered by the faculty development team to help them achieve success and satisfaction in their academic roles.
The University of Alberta is located in the city of Edmonton, capital of the resource-rich province of Alberta. The university has experienced a recent building boom, including the construction of new teaching, clinical and research space for the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry that opened in 2011 and 2012.
Our students, residents and researchers have access to some of the most modern and well-equipped facilities in Canada.
Members of our faculty are internationally respected leaders in several areas, including diabetes, obesity, virology, cardiology, motor control and rehabilitation, protein structure and function, and transplantation. Many of our research groups are recognized globally.
In 2011–12, the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry generated $143.6 million in research dollars, about 40 per cent of the university's total.
