On December 3, 2012, the Medical Council of Canada (MCC) hosted a faculty development workshop and reception at the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry in celebration of the MCC's 2012 centenary year.

Sydney Smee, manager in assessment with the Medical Council of Canada, led a full-day workshop on developing Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE) stations. The interactive presentation entitled, The OSCE Case in Four Parts: a structured approach to creating content, was well received by the almost forty participants. The attendees constructed OSCE encounters and developed examination checklists to score the candidates' abilities. The day culminated with role play of the newly developed OSCE encounters.

The workshop was followed by a reception in the Katz atrium hosted by Nancy MacBeth, vice-president of the MCC Executive Board. Dean Douglas Miller gave a welcome from the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, reviewing the relationship with the MCC. Guests also saw a promotional video documenting the Medical Council of Canada's contribution over the past 100 years to both Alberta and Canada patient care.
