Video Conferencing

The UofA, MedIT, and AHS offer various videoconferencing solutions depending on one's role and intended use. We have attempted to summarize the various options below, and have a more detailed guide to specifics available in our help portal here.


Zoom is MedIT's recommended videoconferencing tool. It is suitable for use within all four FoMD pillars including research, teaching, clinical, and administrative work, with various boundaries and guidelines.

There are two different accounts under which you can gain access to Zoom: UofA eClass and AHS, depending on whose behalf you are conducting the video conference. The UofA eClass license is free of charge and can be activated by contacting

Zoom is available on all major platforms including Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android. It can also be accessed without any additional applications via a web browser.

Google Meet

The UofA's G Suite for Education includes access to Google Meet. More information on how to use Google Meet is available from IST.

Skype for Business

Videoconferencing is also provided through Skype for Business accounts which are connected to your MedID.
