Our purpose was to document the development and current state of knowledge utilization as a field of study using bibliometric analysis with a particular emphasis on health.

Theresearch questions were:

  1. what does the knowledge-utilization field look like generally and in the health sciences?

  2. what is the structure of this scientific community?

  3. what direction can be provided to researchers working in this field of study?

  4. what direction can be provided to decision-makers concerned with the translation of research into patient/consumer, clinical, health systems, and public policy decisions?
