Optimizing the Functional Mobility of People with Dementia Living in Nursing Homes

The purpose of this research is to develop a feasible knowledge translation (KT) intervention to maintain the mobility of nursing home residents with dementia, and to understand the performance of this intervention in varying nursing home contexts.
This research is situated within the CIHR funded Translating Research in Elder Care (TREC) research program which studies the impact of context (i.e., organizational and environmental factors) on KT and its subsequent impact on resident, provider, and system outcomes. Health outcomes of nursing home residents will be measured using the Resident Assessment Instrument-Minimum Data Set (version 2.0) (RAI-MDS 2.0).
Specific objectives:

To develop baseline mobility profiles from the RAI-MDS 2.0 for the nursing homes participating in the TREC program,

To design KT interventions to improve the mobility profiles of nursing homes, and
-
To assess the feasibility and utility of these interventions in two TREC facilities.
