University of Alberta Resources


  • Wellness support social workers are available to provide support for all University of Alberta students. Access Wellness Supports by contacting wellness@ualberta.ca to schedule an appointment.
  • Community Social Work Team provides support to all U of A students, staff, and faculty in connecting to each other and the campus community by facilitating a variety of training sessions, prevention programs, and peer connection activities.
  • Counselling & Clinical Services (CCS) provide psychological treatment services to the students at the University of Alberta using a short-term therapy model. The intention is to help students cope with situations that impact their current level of mental health or illness to assist them to function successfully during their University experience.
  • Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation provide Virtual Fitness and Recreation Classes through MyViva - app - grounded by the three pillars of whole-body health (Mind, Nutrition & Fitness).
  • Healthy Campus Unit is a health promotion team working to support campus health and wellbeing by creating a healthy campus community.
  • Interfaith Chaplains' Association at the University of Alberta is made up of chaplains from a variety of denominations who cooperate with one another to care for the unique needs of the university community. Collectively, chaplains serve the university from the understanding that life, including academic life, is a spiritual journey.
  • Office of the Dean of Students Student Services is an interconnected portfolio of programs and services, the Dean of Students provides support and opportunities that enable students to pursue their academic and personal success.
  • Peer Support Centre is a students' Union service that offers a free, confidential, and non-judgmental place to talk to someone for support.
  • Relaxation and Mindfulness Exercises is useful resource from the Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine contributed by Dr. Al-Noor Mawani.
  • Sexual Assault Centre is offering free and confidential counselling and support for individuals affected by sexual assault, sexual harassment, relationship violence, or stalking.
  • University Health Centre provides comprehensive medical services for students and their immediate family, including full general practice, immunizations, and specialists in OB/GYN, podiatry, and nutrition consultations.
  • University Health Centre Pharmacy is available an on campus pharmacy and is dedicated to serving all students with a full selection of prescription and over-the-counter medications, health and wellness products, and a comprehensive range of services.

Community Resources

  • Addiction Helpline provides a confidential service that is available 24/7. The service provides support, information, and referrals to Albertans experiencing addiction and mental health concerns, including problem gambling.
  • Bullying Helpline helps you or someone you know who is experiencing bullying or abuse to get help anonymously.
  • Canada Suicide Prevention Service offers support to anyone concerned about suicide. Whether you are suffering from a loss, worried about someone who may be having suicidal thoughts, or having suicidal thoughts yourself, our highly trained responders are there to provide support.
  • Child Abuse is a serious matter and get help if you, or children you know, are being neglected, abused or sexually exploited. If you believe a child is at risk, you must report it. Help is available in multiple languages 24/7.
  • 211 Alberta provides Community and social services that helps Albertans find the right resource or service for whatever issue they need help with. The service is free, confidential and available in over 170 languages over the phone.

  • Alberta Family Violence Supports provides guidance for individuals or families experiencing domestic violence. Support is provided anonymously in more than 170 languages with trained staff.

    • Chat: Family Violence - Talk anonymously with trained staff/counsellors (8 am to 8 pm, 7 days a week).
  • Grieving Together provides grief Support including resources and services for grieving and helping during times of loss.
  • 811 Health Link provides comprehensive health advice and information 24/7.
  • Help in Tough Times provides supports available from Alberta Health Service Addiction and Mental Health.
  • Hope for Wellness Helpline offers immediate mental health counselling and crisis intervention to all Indigenous peoples across Canada.
  • Income Supports can help you and your family with basic living costs and other necessities.
  • Mental Health Helpline is a 24/7 confidential service that provides support, information and referrals to Albertans experiencing mental health concerns. The service provides confidential, anonymous service, and information about mental health programs and services.
  • MyHealth.Alberta.ca: Important Numbers is a compilation of important phone numbers you can call for support.
  • NISA - Helpline for Muslim Woman across North America, by providing free, anonymous, confidential, and non-judgmental peer-to-peer counselling.
  • Pflag Canada offers peer-to-peer support striving to help all Canadians with issues of sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression.
  • Poison & Drug Information Service (PADIS) offers free and confidential telephone advice 24/7 to the public and health care professionals on poisons, chemicals, medicines, and herbal supplements.
  • Text4Hope provides free daily text messaging services, evidence-based tool that helps people identify and adjust the negative thoughts, feelings and behaviours a pandemic might be expected to provoke.
