School of Dentistry Education Research Fund (SDERF)

The purpose of the School of Dentistry Education Research Fund (SDERF) is to stimulate and support educational research and applied scholarship to teaching. All faculty involved in teaching in the School of Dentistry at the University of Alberta are eligible to apply for funding. A graduate student may be the principal investigator of the grant; however, the student's supervisor must co-sign the application as co-PI. The maximum amount of a grant awarded by the SDERF is $3,000.

There are two application periods each year; deadlines for submission are February 28 and October 31. The turnaround time from submission of the proposal to funding decision is 60 days or less.

APPLICATION PROCESS

  1. Complete and submit the SDERF application form and any applicable attachments by email to dentersu@ualberta.ca.
  2. The Educational Research Adjudication Committee (ERAC) will examine each application to determine eligibility.
  3. Eligible projects will be forwarded for review.
  4. The ERSU will notify all applicants of the decision of the review committee and any recommendations made by reviewers for the application.
  5. Applicants are encouraged to work with members of the ERSU to make any recommended changes to their applications prior to sending it for a second round of review.
