Dr. Greta Cummings, RN PhD FCAHS FAAN

Dr. Cummings joined the Faculty of Nursing, University of Alberta in 2004 following 15 years of senior administrative leadership experience in hospital, regional and provincial health services. Currently, Dr. Cummings is the Dean of the Faculty of Nursing for a five-year term, effective July 1, 2017.

Dr. Cummings is passionate about relational nursing leadership that empowers individuals, teams, and organizations to achieve shared goals. She established the CLEAR Outcomes (Connecting Leadership, Education & Research) Research Program in leadership science in health services in 2006. Dr. Cummings has systematically documented the effects, both positive and negative, of specific leadership practices on outcomes for the health system, the healthcare workforce and for patients.

Dr. Cummings is sought out by local, national, and international colleagues around the world to supervise students, collaborate on research, provide addresses on her leadership research, and to provide consultation. Her extensive community service contributions include numerous editorial and professional boards. She has been President Elect and President of the Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology and is Past President of the International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care.

Dr. Cummings' work and over 215 publications have been recognized nationally and internationally through several prestigious research awards, including the inauguration into the Sigma Theta Tau International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame (2015), the CNA Order of Merit for Research (2010), the CASN Award of Excellence in Research (2008), and the CARNA award of Excellence (2008). In addition she has been inducted as a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and American Academy of Nursing.
