Technology Transfer Services Team
We help researchers, postdoctoral fellows, staff, and students explore their discoveries and innovations' application and commercial potential and support intellectual property (IP) protection and strategy. We also connect external companies and individuals with U of A technologies available for licensing. Our services include:
- Technology Transfer and Licensing – provide invention/intellectual property guidance to researchers, identify the commercialization potential of research-driven discoveries and innovations, and negotiate commercialization agreements.
- Industry Partnerships and Business Development – Create translational research and commercialization partnerships with industry, market licensing opportunities and help U of A spinoffs, inventors and entrepreneurs grow, scale and succeed.
- Administration – management of patents, legal and financial records, and general inquiries about the Inventor Portal.

Luke is an innovator with experience in automated supply chains, autonomous vehicles, virtual health care and food tech innovation. As an Executive MBA graduate from the University of Alberta, serial entrepreneur of 3 companies and NEXT36 alumni there is nothing he enjoys more than building new ventures. This past year he co-founded JustCook Kitchens to build a digitally native food hall and market. Luke is also the Chief Originator at Grassroots Ventures and an EIR at the University of Alberta. He looks forward to mentoring companies at the UofA and assisting in their commercialization.
