Health + Well-being

The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry (FoMD) is committed to creating a learning environment where everyone is valued and respected. To develop compassionate physicians and leaders, we actively promote, support and value the well-being of every member of our academic community.

The following list of resources provides academic, physical and mental health support for our students.

MD Program Resources

Many MD students experience academic difficulties at some point in their careers. Academic Affairs provides professional academic advising to help you succeed.

FoMD Resources

This office helps students with issues — big or small — that are affecting the health and well-being of students. If an issue is affecting your studies, OAW will help you and advocate on your behalf to find a solution.
The MSA Peer Support program offers the opportunity to talk to a fellow medical student who provides confidential one-on-one support.
This program supports Indigenous applicants as they enter, study and graduate successfully from the U of A's health sciences programs.

University of Alberta Resources

First People’s House provides support and services for First Nations, Métis and Inuit students on campus.
This office offers information, advice and support to students, faculty and staff as they deal with academic, discipline, interpersonal and financial issues related to student programs.
The UHC provides health services to staff members, students and families of students.

Additional Resources

PFSP provides confidential support and help with personal health issues and enhances the quality of patient care and public safety by promoting health and well-being for the medical profession that cares for all Albertans. PFSP is provided through an agreement between AMA and Alberta Health.
