We Believe Survivors

We recognize that as faculty and instructors at a post-secondary institution we have a responsibility to create and maintain a climate in which students' equitable access to learning opportunities is centred. Larger patterns of gender-based and sexual violence teach us that students are particularly vulnerable to attempts to deny such violence and to silence those who disclose it. We are working to build and maintain a climate in which we believe survivors and stand in solidarity with those who have said publicly, "'we believe survivors." We call on faculty, instructors, and administration at our institution and others also to stand in such solidarity.

If you have experienced sexual violence, you can reach out to any trusted colleague, instructor, peer or staff member in EFS. If you receive a disclosure, please refer to the Faculty of Arts guidelines and contact EFS Sexual Violence Policy Department Liaison Cecily Devereux (devereux@ualberta.ca).
